Human metapneumovirus infection
Description
Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) is an emerging human respiratory pathogen first reported in 2001. hMPV is widely distributed that nearly all individuals have been exposed to the virus by age of 5 years. It causes mild to severe cough, bronchiolitis, and pneumonia and these symptoms cannot be distinguished from those caused by the respiratory syncytial virus, influenza and parainfluenza viruses.
