Lyssaviruses belong to the genus Lyssavirus, within the family Rhabdoviridae and the order Mononegavirales of -ssRNA viruses. The genus Lyssavirus currently includes rabies virus [DS:H00377] and 6 rabies-related viruses. They can cause acute, fatal encephalitis similar to that seen with rabies virus infection of humans. There is no effective treatment.
