KEGG   ENZYME: 1.4.2.2
Entry
EC 1.4.2.2                  Enzyme
Name
nicotine dehydrogenase;
nicA2 (gene name)
Class
Oxidoreductases;
Acting on the CH-NH2 group of donors;
With a cytochrome as acceptor
Sysname
(S)-nicotine:cytochrome c oxidoreductase (N-methylmimosine-forming)
Reaction(IUBMB)
(S)-nicotine + 2 ferricytochrome c = N-methylmyosmine + 2 ferrocytochrome c + 2 H+ [RN:R11175]
Reaction(KEGG)
R11175
Substrate
(S)-nicotine [CPD:C00745];
ferricytochrome c [CPD:C00125]
Product
N-methylmyosmine [CPD:C21154];
ferrocytochrome c [CPD:C00126];
H+ [CPD:C00080]
Comment
The enzyme, characterized from the bacterium Pseudomonas putida S16, contains an FAD cofactor and belongs to the flavin-containing amine oxidase family. The enzyme from this bacterium is specific for the c-type cytochrome CycN. The product undergoes spontaneous hydrolysis to form pseudooxynicotine.
